So I want to join my schools golf team…?

golf instruction

and I'm just kind of curious to what a high school golf team expects.
I have to buy a new set of clubs and need to know if there are any guide lines I should be following.
Also tips for just getting better and playing are good too.

you know i bet you can get on the girls team no prob.
The golf coaches know that golf is a very slow game to learn and that they have to be patient. They know that, so they arent gonna get mad if you suck. as long as you try ur hardest to learn, practice, and show them that the game is fun for you. thats all coaches really expect. oh and clubs, the school should have a set you can borrow. at least until you buy a set. when you do ask the golf professional to give you a couple of sets to pick from. you need a set that gives you the confidence to hit the shot when you look at them from above. but most importantly you need a set that is dialed right into ur swing or skill level. The fastest way to lower ur score is to putt like a mad man an practice ur short game chipping.

what most hs team coaches want is someone that is willing to learn and take instruction, someone who is a "team" player (supporting others on the team, even if they are ranked higher than you) and someone who represents your school well.

Regarding the club to buy, it depends on many factors, not the least of which is your budget. Ask you coach about club selection as well as working to make your game better. Any good coach will be happy to help with these questions.

Much depends upon the coach, the school and the number of students who wish to try out for the team. There is no restriction on the make of clubs so long as they meet specifications. You should have played the game and have some playing ability. Otherwise, what good are you to the team ? The school team will consist of perhaps 6 players as well as alternates. In both high school and college , qualifying rounds were played where those who shot the best were selected to play.

I am currently on a golf team and all a golf team coach expects of you is to try your hardest all the time. Some kids go out and they don’t care and walk really slow and don’t try. I am a 6 handicap sophomore and nothing is worse than having a lazy teammate and coaches hate it.

About the clubs- you need to have no more than fourteen clubs in your bag( anymore and it will be a DQ) and usually golfers have 3 iron-p wedge and 2-3 wedges with a putter
